How long does WAMU take to verify a check deposited through ATM? Just yesterday i tried to make it in time before my nearest WAMU branch closed to deposit my check but didn't make it......... Instead i used a deposit envelope to deposit through ATM..... How long does the bank usually take to verify the deposit before you can withdraw ?

Auburn P replied: "hg"

STEVEN F replied: "The cutoff time for ATM deposits is usually BEFORE the branches close. That means the deposit probably happened the next business day. Because yesterday was Friday, and Monday is Columbus day, the deposit will probably post on Tues, Oct 14. This would be true for ANY US bank. There should be a sign on the ATM showing the cutoff time for deposits to credit the same day. I don't know about WAMU, but 2:00pm is the normal ATM cutoff for my bank."

Who are the actors in the WAMU commercial with the bankers pen? Who are the actors in the current WAMU commercials with the bankers pen and the black man in the blue WAMU shirt?

Jennifer A replied: "Not sure who the actors are. You should write to Leo Burnett and ask them, as they are the ad agency behind the commercials."

What will happen to my home loan if WaMu closes or gets bought? I have my home loan, home equity, checking and savings accounts at WaMu. I know my checking/savings in insured by the FDIC but I am concerned about my home. Is it safe?

src50 replied: "Nothing. The loan continues in existence. It will probably be transferred to another lender."

fliptrns replied: "Your home loan would get bought up by another bank. For instance, Bank of America would buy it from WaMu. Often at a discount, but that has no roll down effects to you. They'll contact you and tell you the loan has been sold and where to send your monthly payments."

METROPOLIS1 replied: "YES its safe..... If WaMu fails another lending institution will purchase your mortgage... Your mortgage is an asset so someone will buy it.... then a letter will come in the mail to let you know who bought it.... Your perfectly safe and your mortgage particulars wont change...."

PoohBearPenguin replied: "Wamu is currently trying to sell itself to another bank. This bank would then assume your mortgage and equity loan. Until then, just keep making your payments to Wamu as normal. Your checking and saving accounts will also be OK so long as their balances are under $100. This is covered by the FDIC. The only thing that might hiccup is when your accounts switch over to the new bank. You might lose online banking for a week or so - but your money will be safe and accessible via normal means (checks, ATM, teller.)"

How long does it take to close a WAMU savings account? How long does it take to close a WAMU savings account? Is it instant or do I have to wait?

Rosita replied: "For it to be instant, you have to walk into the branch and do with them. For it to close by itself, I've had to leave it with 0.00 Balance for like, 1 1/2 - 2 months, until they finally close it."

prosephina_s replied: "You can do it over the phone or step into a branch for faster results. Once you see a teller, it's done! :)"

Sharon F replied: "Go to a WAMU branch and close it. It's done immediately ....."

How much does money transfer from wachovia to wamu cost? I am in the middle of no where and my wamu account is negative. there is no wamu for 100 miles. I was thinking about opening a wachovia account and depositing there so I could do a bank to bank money transfer. What fee does wachovia charge if I want to transfer 110 dollars to wamu account? hmm MVD, is that safe?

MVD34 replied: "Why don't you just mail it in? If you have a deposit slip...look up the nearest mail drop/teller for WaMu deposit by mail on line. It will cost you 45 cents for the stamp."

How will the WaMu buyout really affect me? I have my checking and savings accounts through WaMu. Everyone seems to be in a panic about WaMu failing and the JP Morgan Chase buyout. As a customer, what real life effects is this going to have on me, if any? To me, it seems like my bank will just be changing names. What am I not anticipating?

Tim replied: "You are right, they will just be changing names and closing some branches. No big deal."

Chris replied: "well wamu is insured by the FDIC. The FDIC pays back up to 100000 if you lose your money"

Jeglys M replied: "I don't think it will affect you unless you have alot of money in a savings or checkings, Good luck."

Ambivalence replied: ""if" you own WaMu stock or are an employee - worry maybe valid, otherwise business as usual..."

Katie W replied: "Congratulations! You're not a panicky lemming! Personally, I'm rather relieved. This went over pretty well for accountholders, I think; our money and accounts are still there, accessible, and (for now) on the same terms they were. Names will change, yes, and I would strongly suspect that terms on the accounts will change -- WaMu offered some pretty sweet deals in an attempt to get their hands on more cash; Chase will likely either bring those back into line with the market or simply change them to similar accounts they already offer, with more normal terms. This will take a bit of time though as they merge operations and analyze the data. But in the meantime, we're now accountholders in a much more stable bank. Shareholders, now, may be hurting from the bad investment in bad investments. I'm not a shareholder in that bank though so don't have info there. As an accountholder, I'd say we're better off in the longer run."

Gary replied: "I have two checking accounts with Wamu, as far as I know, they will be changing names. But I will close my accounts because I really don't like dealing with JP Morgan and Chase. Dealt with them before and didn't like the experience."

What will happen to the house we are staying in now that WaMu has failed? We started renting the house from a guy who didn't tell us the house was in foreclosure. After auction, WaMu owned the house. We stayed there hoping to live there as long as we could before the eviction. Now we have been in contact with WaMu for the past 3 months trying to buy the place. They had been interested. What will happen now that WaMu is failed?

wwpetcemetery replied: "You most likely will have to move if some other bank buys their mortgages or property they own. As for getting a loan from them...you're outta luck and are going to have to start over. If you are in southern cal. I hve a # you can call and they may be able to help finance you..it was painless for me using them and they were done in a week."

Angelika replied: "You will have to start communications with the new bank (probably JP Morgan) as soon as possible so that they know you are interested. They (just like WaMu)would rather get rid of it @ a discount than have it on their books. The only bad thing is that they have no obligation to take you into consideration.. Good luck!"

What does the parenthesis mean in the Wamu bank account? When I I go to my WaMu account it has parenthesis around both the available balance and the ledger balance. Does this mean I can't use my money?

Cynthia M replied: "usually balances in parenthesis indicate a negative balance"

What is going to happen to WaMu credit cards? I've read alot of question on here asking what's going to happen to peoples mortgages, and checking and savings account, well what about credit cards and their balances. Everything I've read about the deal was that JPMorgan were only buying WaMu's assets and not their debts. So what about the credit card debts that consumers have? Who are they paying? Are we paying the government since JPMorgan only took control of their assets? If WaMu doesn't exist anymore, can they very well report on your credit report as delinquent?

mobilemark replied: "http://www.chase.com/welcomewamu/Frequently Asked Questions: Q. What will happen to my account at WaMu? And to my branch? A. It's business as usual. As of September 25, 2008, JPMorgan Chase has assumed the deposit and loan accounts, and all branches, of Washington Mutual. You can continue to access your accounts just the way you've accessed them in the past: use your same branch, same debit, credit and ATM cards, same checks."

bud68 replied: "Credit card accounts ARE assets to the bank, not debts. Your WAMU credit card continues to function. It will eventually be replaced by a Chase card."

I am getting my own WaMu account, is there anyway I can get a detailed debit card? My friend has a cute little debit card from National City, I was just wondering if WaMu had any debit cards you could pick the design of. Please help!

Sharon T replied: "Wouldn't a "cute little debit card" encourage you to use it more often? Then get an old ugly one and keep it at home for emergencies. You don't want to make it too easy to get money out of your account. Find ways to make it easy to get it IN!"

lvfoxmotox replied: "Unfortunately, no. They WaMu debit cards are standard for all customer. You will either get a gold card or a platinum one. If you are looking for a basic, free checking account, you will have the gold debit card. The only feature you can select to have or not have s the "paypass" feature which enables you to "tap" your card at certain locations vs. swiping the card. You can still swipe the card as well, it is just an extra feature. The WaMu credit cards can be personalized, so you might want to look into that. Hope that helps."
